Instrument Design and Fabrication
The LSU Eye Center is fortunate to have an in-house instrument design and fabrication facility that provides high quality design, manufacture, and modification of research equipment. To investigators, immediate availability of these capabilities is invaluable to prevent a project interruption caused by the lack of a small part or avert the potential havoc resulting from using an outside vendor who does not have the experience in these specialized areas to envision a solution to a particular problem. This facility employs a mechanical engineer whose abilities in conception, design, and production have contributed essential equipment for studies ranging from the molecular biology of herpesvirus latency to the use of a scanning laser ophthalmoscope for the visualization of fluorescent vesicles in the retinal and choroidal circulation.
